Georgia! Georgia?

Well this last weekend found me in Atlanta Georgia for my final interview. I am so glad to be done with this crisscrossing across the U.S.! Atlanta was unseasonably cold around 34 degrees or so. But I had been in Omaha the week before where it was -8 so I wasn't complaining. Atlanta Medical Center (AMC) was a small but strong program - they only take 3 residents a year. The cool thing about their program is they work with the team physician with the Falcons and the Thrashers (NHL) as well as the hand surgeon for the Braves and Hawks. Honestly, I don't think Atlanta is the right city for me, but I could live there if I needed to. While there, I took some time to visit the sites - including the High Museum of Art in downtown. They had a traveling exhibit titled the Louvre Atlanta which included original pieces brought over from the actual Louvre in Paris. You all know I am not a big artsy person, but since the collection brought was titled the Ancient World and included pieces from ancient Rome, Greece, Persia, and Egypt.....I found it fascinating! Here are some photos I took.

The outside of the museum's exhibit.

The Tiber Rome, AD 75-125 - I studied the anatomy of feet, toes, hands intently and found it amazing on its accuracy.

Perhaps my favorite sculpture - the detailed carving of this man's hair, beard, etc - was absolutely unbelievable.

This was not a part of the Louvre collection but still loved it. I am currently reading a book about Lincoln's cabinet between 1861 and his assassination. I thought it was fitting that while reading this book, I was visiting Atlanta - which was burned to the groung by Gen. Sherman under Lincoln's ultimate command. While reading this book (Team of Rivals), I have decided that there is no question Lincoln was the greatest president this country has been privileged to have.
